Notes About General
Education Requirements in Math
Any math class numbered 110 and above is acceptable for General
Education requirements. However, certain classes have been designed
with certain students in mind.
MT
110
Mathematics
for Financial Decision-Making
3
credits
Prerequisite: MT 002 or equivalent
- THIS CLASS IS DESIGNED FOR BUSINESS MAJORS WHO ARE IN THE B.A.
TRACK. Note: Business Majors who are in the B.S. track are required to
take this class, so they need another math class to satisfy their
general education requirement. That class should be College Algebra or
Precalculus, as either would satisfy the prerequisite for Business
Calculus.
MT
112
Quantitative
Reasoning
3
credits
Prerequisite: MT 002 or equivalent
- This class is designed for those students who are not education
majors who are majoring in any non-science related field.
MT
114
Mathematical
Explorations
4
credits
Prerequisite: MT 002 or equivalent
- This class is designed not only for all non-science education
majors but also for any education major. It is a good preparation for
ED 402. It also is a good choice for anyone who is or plans on being a
parent and wants to help their child with homework.
MT
122
Statistics
I
3
credits
Prerequisite: MT
002 or equivalent
- This is used by nursing students as their general education
requirement. It also would be good for any major that deals with
statistical data.
- NOTE: Psychology majors should not take both PS 303 and MT 122,
because they are essentially the same class.
MT
160
College
Algebra
4
credits
Prerequisite: MT 002 or equivalent
- College Algebra should be used as a general education requirement
by students who are majoring in Biology & Allied Health, Business
(B.S.), Clinical Laboratory Sciences, and Chemistry, and students in
the Physician Assistants and Chiropractic Programs.
- Since College Algebra is required for CIS majors, those students
must take another math class to satisfy their general education
requirement. Statistics I is a good choice.
- Because PS 303 is a required course for Psychology majors and
this course is a prerequisite, this is their general education
requirement.
MT
161
Precalculus
4
credits
Prerequisite: MT 160 or equivalent
- Students majoring in Physical Therapy, Optometry, Podiatric
Medicine, and Audiology should use Precalculus as a general education
requirement.
- Because Precalculus is required for a math major, it is
recommended that math majors take another 300 or 400 level elective.
