e) A Felician Certificate in Hipaa Administration is granted to students of Nursing taking a special Informatics and Hipaa course designed specially for them. Please see under “Other Studies and Certifications” for the credentials that support this new certificate program.

·        Promoted the use of Distance Education tools in Computer Information System courses. Put together a Distance Learning experimental platform based on Open Source software (Moodle) and lead this effort as site administrator for one year. This effort is demonstrating that an Open Source platform can be an effective and less expensive alternative to commercial Distance Learning platforms. (See our site at http://mobiusnet.com )  At the most active moment during the pilot test conducted there were 250 users successfully participating in some 26 courses.

·        A Workshop on “Information Security for High Schools (for High School Principals)” was successfully organized and presented. A small number of schools attended, but from the lessons of the experience, we expect to target more responsive audience in the future. Cerias' Matt Rose (Purdue University) participated in the event and made one of the most successful presentations.

·        A one week course for faculty of the New York metropolitan area was organized at one of the computer laboratories of Felician College. The course Cisco Professor Professional Security Development (CISCO Systems Security Boot-camp), took place in December 2003 with the participation of 20 professors from different Colleges and Universities of the New York Metro area.

August 2002 to present

Felician College, Lodi, NJ

Full Professor of Computer Science at the Department of Computer Science

·        Character and Success of my Teaching:  Several of the courses I have designed and modified at Felician College through the last years benefited from my approach to teaching: a professional presentation based upon Powerpoint slides, good e-learning enhanced teaching methodology (hybrid courses using e-Companion or Moodle to provide a companion Web site), good laboratory practices of the teaching material by the students in a real computer laboratory, and the use of Computer Simulation software and teaching techniques.

·        Courses for the new Curriculum of Computer Information Systems. These courses had to be designed completely, since CIS is a new degree. Also are included the courses prepared and taught for the new concentration in Information Assurance and Computer Security. All courses were designed with a companion site built on a Course Management Platform. Most courses have strong laboratory and hands-on component.

1.      A new course CIS 317 “Computer Informatics, Privacy and Security for Health Care Professionals” was designed to serve the needs of the cohorts of the Fast Track Bachelor in Nursing program offered by the Nursing Division. This course was designed in collaboration with Professor Dr. Melissa Dark, of Purdue University. This course is taught in a “hybrid” mode, using a combination of lectures, laboratories and an e-learning component.  The course covers elements of nursing informatics as well as a complete survey of the HIPAA regulations in the healthcare profession, including HIPAA Basics, HIPAA Privacy and HIPAA Security, including applications and laboratories for a hands-on use and practice of the requirements of HIPAA for electronic transactions and information security. Students passing all the tests of this course with 80% or higher grade receive the Certificate in Hipaa Administration.

2.      CIS 125 “Elements of Java Programming” (for Teachers of Mathematics)

3.      CIS 140 ”Management of Information Systems.

4.      CIS 425 “Management of Information Security”.

5.      CIS 220 “Information Systems Theory and Practice”.

6.      CIS 225 “Principles of Information Assurance and Security”.

7.      CIS 210 “e-Commerce Strategy, Architecture and Design”.

8.      CIS 215 “Web and e-Commerce Security”

9.      CIS250, "IT Hardware and Operating Systems

10.  CIS270 "Programming, Data, File and Object Structures in Java.

11.  CIS315 “Computer Forensics and Operating Systems Security”.

12.  CIS320 “Networks and Communications”.

13.  CIS325 “Network Security” (in preparation)

14.  CIS365 “Cryptography Technologies” (in preparation).

·        Courses of the older Computer Science curriculum. Distance learning components (companion sites) were developed for most of the courses:

1.      CS110: Introduction to Computer Science

2.      CS120: Computing Science I. This course was extensively modified.

3.      CS140: Management of Information Systems.

4.      CS210: Computing Science II. Extensively modified.

5.      CS220: Computer Science III. Course considerably improved from previous versions

6.      CS315: Digital Electronic and Computer Architecture. Course re-designed

7.      CS325: Introduction to Operating Systems.

8.      CS390: Data Communications and Distributed Computing.
